Chapter 231: I’m Pregnant (35)
Chapter 231: I’m Pregnant (35)
Lucy pulled out a chair and sat down, "You probably don’t know yet, but my childhood friend James Foster is now in a deep coma, and we don’t know if he will ever wake up?"Elliot Gill indeed didn’t know about this, and upon hearing her say it, he immediately asked, "Do you know which hospital he’s in now?"
"Northriver First People’s Hospital."
"I’ll send someone to take care of him and use the best medicine. Don’t worry too much."
"There’s no need, Jacob Green’s people are there." Lucy said while eating, "After I saw this news, I went to Ningham and met Jacob Green and his subordinates. Though the treatment level there doesn’t match the Capital City, they mentioned transferring him here by chance. James now shows signs of becoming a vegetable; if he doesn’t wake up in a few months, the situation will be irreversible. People in a coma have sensitive hearing, so recently I want to visit the hospital frequently and talk to him, hoping to wake him up."
"In what capacity will you visit?"
"Naturally as Tia Bailey."
"Will his family and Jacob Green’s people allow you to be alone with him?"
"Of course not, I’ll figure something out." She had no intention of revealing more details to him, "So except for meal times, my home schedule is quite unpredictable these days."
"Once the baby in your belly is three months old, I’ll announce your pregnancy to the public."
"Isn’t that inappropriate? We’re not even married. Announcing it might make netizens think you’re a scumbag, since I’m your girlfriend in name, and the child is yours in name, too." At this stage, she didn’t want many strangers to know about her pregnancy because she believed she would legitimately return to Jacob Green’s side five years later, and at that point, explaining the child’s situation would be difficult.
"As for marriage, just say the word, and we can do it anytime."
"I won’t marry you." Lucy’s voice was faint, "Elliot Gill, we can’t really be together."
"Whether it’s possible or not depends on a single thought." His gaze grew colder, "Do you truly think that five years from now Jacob Green will still be waiting for you? He’ll make you realize how laughable your trust in him is."
Lucy lowered her eyes; she didn’t refute his words because they precisely touched on a complex point in her heart.
She approached Jacob Green as Tia Bailey, and he really took the bait.
"He’s only 25, still young. It’s obvious he can’t be a bachelor for life. As for whether he will wait for me five years from now, I don’t want to overthink it. What’s mine will be mine, and what isn’t, there’s no use forcing it. You should understand this principle as well."
"I understand, which is why I want to keep you by my side, because you will definitely be mine."
"..."
"In any case, I don’t agree with announcing my pregnancy publicly."
"Well, your opinion doesn’t count here." He put down his chopsticks, "I’m full."
Even though he hadn’t taken a few bites.
Lucy felt at a loss; she had been focused on getting close to Jacob Green and gaining an advantage without leaving space for other women.
So how could she explain the child’s situation to him now?
She couldn’t claim it was his child, and if Elliot Gill announced it, she couldn’t deny it either.
How would Jacob Green view her?
What would he think?
Would he think she was with him while pregnant with someone else’s child?
He surely would.
Thinking of this, her eyes dimmed.
She placed the unfinished meal in the fridge, and as soon as she opened it, the smell of lamb wafted out, making her stomach churn again. She quickly ran to the bathroom and vomited out the meal she hadn’t yet digested.
Lucy hated the feeling of vomiting; it was very uncomfortable.
She stood up, holding onto the toilet’s edge, pressed the flush button, and began to rinse her mouth and brush her teeth.
Without informing Elliot Gill, she headed out the door.
She went to the hotel.
After looking around, Jacob Green was not in the room.
The coffee table was adorned with a variety of pastries and fruits.
Her stomach was empty, so she sat on the sofa and peeled an apple.
She hadn’t finished the apple when he returned.
They exchanged glances, and Jacob Green came over and snatched the apple from her hand, putting it on the table.
"Can’t I even enjoy an apple properly?"
"When did you take a shower?"
"I showered last night..."
"Go shower now."
Lucy rolled her eyes and smiled, "In broad daylight..."
He raised an eyebrow, "Do you have a problem with that?"
Of course, she had a problem; before, it was because she missed him too much and couldn’t restrain herself. But now she needed to be a bit more rational as she was pregnant, she couldn’t be as carefree as before.
"My stomach’s not feeling well." She didn’t want to move at all.
He noticed she looked somewhat worn out, and her eyelids were slightly swollen, so he restrained his impulse to kiss her.
"What’s wrong? Is it a stomach issue or did you eat something bad?"
She suddenly leaned against him, "It’s nothing, just need to rest a bit. By the way, how’s your injured friend?"
"The doctor said that family and friends calling out to him frequently might bring a turnaround, and he’s being treated with imported medicine."
Thinking of James Foster, Lucy couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow in her heart. The deep-seated affection from growing up together was strong; the other’s wellbeing brought happiness, while the other’s hardships brought a special sadness.
"I’m going to the bathroom." He got up and walked away, but a card fell from the spot where he had been sitting.
Lucy picked it up and saw it was a VIP entry card for the hospital.
Her heart stirred, and she pocketed the card.
Two minutes later, Jacob Green came out and asked, "Did you see a white hospital card?"
"No," Lucy denied it, "Did you lose it?"
"Yeah, it’s missing, probably dropped it somewhere." He looked around and then said, "Oh well."
"Not going to look for it?"
"I’ll just get another one at the hospital; it’s not something important." He said it very casually.
In his eyes, the hospital VIP cards were plentiful, but to Lucy, it wasn’t easy. Only family members of patients were eligible to request them.
With this card, visiting James Foster in the hospital would be much more convenient.
She truly thought Jacob Green had accidentally left it behind, not realizing it was his deliberate way of giving it to her.
——
"Grace, look at this. My dad sent it over." Stellan Quinn handed the invitation in his hand to her.
Grace Hughes took it and was utterly shocked, "Lily Green’s wedding actually invited you to attend?"
"Yes, I didn’t expect this either. My dad said they sent him an invitation too. Our Quinn Family and the Green Family have long fell out, yet they still sent us an invitation? Isn’t it bewildering?"
"What’s so bewildering about it? Before things turned sour, you had a close relationship and were neighbors for many years. Maybe the Green Family is using this opportunity to resolve past grievances and probably invited other estranged acquaintances too."
