Chapter 33 A Warning from the Future
Chapter 33 A Warning from the Future
Civil Defense Bureau, Yuehua City Branch.
Noah sat on the sofa, sipping her black tea.
The tea was fine tea, the kind of high-grade black tea used to entertain distinguished guests. However, Noah still couldn't stand the astringency of the black tea, so she added two packets of sugar as usual.
Opposite her was Wang Tingshi, the director of the Yuehua City Civil Air Defense Bureau. Although she was sitting upright, she was inwardly filled with unease.
Wang Tingshi has been in a state of confusion ever since Noah said that she came from the future.
Wang Tingshi wasn't without her doubts. Logically, she would never have believed such a fantastical story. But that "number"... the number that should have been completely sealed away along with that "failed plan"...
How did she know?
Unless, as she claims, it was her future self who told her, there's no way she could possibly know this number.
After that meeting, Noah also took the initiative to ask to speak with higher-ups, saying, "I need to see the 'Director General of the Civil Defense Bureau' or 'Quipiao,' only they are qualified to speak with me."
After Wang Tingshi reported the matter, her superiors responded and agreed to Noah's request to meet. Just two days later, Kui Shao arrived in Yuehua City to meet with Noah.
Yesterday, Wang Tingshi messaged Noah, inviting her to the Civil Defense Bureau today for a meeting with higher-ups. So, Noah and Wang Tingshi are now sitting in the conference room, waiting for Kui Biao's arrival.
"You're a bit too nervous right now. To be honest, you'll be much more composed in the future."
Noah's voice interrupted Wang Tingshi's thoughts. She looked up at Noah.
"What will I be like in the future?"
It seems that Noah's topic piqued her interest, which is why she asked the question.
Noah looked at her and smiled. "In the future... you went back to your old profession and returned to the laboratory."
"Huh?" Wang Tingshi was stunned. "I'm... back to being a researcher in the future?"
"Yes, but—"
Knock, knock, knock. The knocking suddenly interrupted Noah's words.
"Come in!" Wang Tingshi quickly composed herself and called out to the door.
The door was slowly pushed open.
A magical girl walked in.
The girl wore a simple and neat magical girl battle suit, a mix of white and light blue, with short dark blue hair, delicate features, and a gender-neutral heroic spirit.
"Lord Kui Shao, hello!" Wang Tingshi stood up, her tone filled with awe and nervousness.
"Don't be nervous, Director Wang."
The girl, known as "Kuishao," had a cool, clear voice. Her gaze didn't linger on Wang Tingshi for long, but instead turned to Noah on the sofa.
"This must be the Miss Noah mentioned in the report, right?"
"Greetings, Lord Kuibo. My name is Noah." Noah also stood up and gave a slight bow.
Kui Bai looked Noah up and down for a long time before saying, "Sit down. Since this is a matter of great importance concerning the 'future,' we can sit down and talk about it slowly."
The three of them sat down again.
"I'm very surprised," Kui Biao said first. "I've read Director Wang's report in detail. To be honest, things like 'time travel' are beyond my understanding, and even beyond the understanding of the entire Civil Defense Bureau's higher-ups. Under normal circumstances, I would never believe such a thing."
She paused for a moment, her sharp gaze fixed on Noah.
"However, the fact that you can accurately state the drug's number is problematic. Even if people knew about the drug's existence, they would only refer to it as 'Drive Drug No. 1,' which was what all the researchers at the time called it. As for the drug's number, only its creator, Director Wang, and a few other high-ranking officials with access to the 'failure record' knew its exact number."
"I see," Noah seemed to understand something. "That potion is related to the 'Magical Girl Awakening Project,' isn't it?"
Kui-shao was silent for a moment, seemingly considering something. Then, she nodded.
"...Yes. Since you even know that number, then telling you about it won't hurt. That happened more than ten years ago..."
"KSTTV923 was the first drug in that project, and also one of its most disastrous results. The test subjects suffered severe side effects and all eventually died. It is one of the most unspeakable stains in the history of the Civil Defense Bureau's research institute, and indeed, the entire Civil Defense Bureau."
Wang Tingshi lowered her head and remained silent.
"So, although the plan ultimately went ahead, the failed drug was completely sealed away. It was never made public, and it's impossible for outsiders to know about it."
"Actually, the 'Magical Girl Awakening Project,' 'Drive Agent No. 1,' and even the mass deaths during that experiment—these things could potentially be known to the outside world. After all, many people were involved, and it would be difficult to keep it a secret. However, the true designation of 'Drive Agent No. 1' cannot be known to the outside world. This designation has been kept under the highest level of secrecy from the very beginning."
Kuipiao continued, "And the fact that you can name this potion number, coupled with the fact that you are an 'Eternal Radiance' level magical girl, and the fact that you have a blank record in the past, makes me have to start seriously considering the possibility that you come from the future, as you said."
Upon hearing this, Noah gave a rare cold laugh.
"It's that damned 'Magical Girl Awakening Project' again... It's like a persistent ghost." Her voice was low and filled with obvious disgust. "I've had enough."
"Now, it's your turn, Miss Noah." Ignoring the emotions in her words, Kuibiao steered the conversation back on track. "What exactly is this 'future world destruction' information you mentioned?"
"It means exactly what it says." Noah regained her calm and detached demeanor. "In the 'twelve years later' I came from, the world has been ruled by a magical girl. Human cities have become hell, and all resistance has vanished."
"As for the Civil Defense Bureau," Noah's eyes flashed with a hint of helplessness, "it's probably just a few ordinary people barely clinging to life, and me, the only magical girl left."
"incredible."
Kui Biao shook her head. Even though she had prepared herself mentally, the impact of the story still exceeded her expectations.
"The Civil Defense Bureau has an organization spanning the globe, possesses cutting-edge technology, and boasts the most powerful magical girl combat force. I cannot imagine what kind of being could completely annihilate the Civil Defense Bureau."
"Even if all those 'unofficial magical girls' outside the system were to unite, they might cause a lot of trouble, but to say they would wipe out the Human Defense Bureau is absolutely impossible. Besides, they have no reason to do so."
After hearing what Kui-shao said, Noah smiled and corrected her, "I never said that this was something an 'unofficial magical girl' would do. Kui-shao, you're just making a preconceived notion."
"Because besides that, I can't think of anything else that could threaten the Civil Defense Bureau's existence." Kui-shao frowned. "Then, who exactly is this 'magical girl who ruled the world' you mentioned?"
"She hasn't shown up yet. Even if I tell you her name, you won't be able to find her," Noah replied casually.
Kui-Piao seemed to sense something, staring intently at Noah: "—Really?"
"In the end," Noah completely ignored Quipp's doubts and suddenly changed the subject, "this matter is not as urgent as you think. We can solve it slowly."
"How could we not be anxious!" Wang Tingshi couldn't help but interject, "This concerns the future of the entire world—"
"Even if you're in a rush," Noah interrupted her, her smile unchanged, "there's no need to start preparing ten years in advance, is there?"
"What do you mean?" Qui-Piao stared at Noah. Although she believed Noah was indeed from the future, she always felt that Noah was hiding something.
"It means exactly what it says." Noah leaned back and lay down on the sofa.
"As I said, I traveled from twelve years in the future. Well, I have good news for you—for the first ten years of those twelve years, the world was safe and sound."
"The Civil Defense Bureau was almost wiped out, and 'that person' ruled the world... all of this actually only took two years."
