Chapter 766 - 737: Love Across Parallel Worlds [059]
Sienna told her parents that Simon Forrester wanted to visit on the fifth day of the New Year. Not only did Quentin Thorne not object, but he also asked Melinda Linton to get up early that day to go to the market to buy fresh ingredients, as he wanted to cook personally. Thus, on the fifth day, Simon Forrester arrived at the Thorne Family’s house after 10 a.m., while Quentin Thorne was busy in the kitchen wearing an apron.
Sienna led Simon to the living room and quickly went to the kitchen to call her parents. Quentin took off his apron and came out to greet Simon. Although his attitude was not particularly warm, it was much better than last time’s cold refusal.
Quentin Thorne had already thoroughly investigated the Forrester Family’s history.
How the Forresters rose to prominence, the situation with the Forrester Group and overseas Forresters, the relationship between Zane Forrester and Bianca Fordham, Sylvia Langley’s career and her familial background, and even Simon Forrester’s relationship with the Blackwood Family were all known to him.
Therefore, he didn’t waste time inquiring about these matters again and directly asked how Simon and Sienna met and why they decided to be together.
He actually had his own conflicts and dilemmas in mind.
On one hand, he was pleased that his status could enhance his daughter’s competitiveness in choosing a partner. On the other hand, he feared the man might pursue his status and connections rather than have sincere feelings for his daughter.
Only a man understands what another man is thinking and plotting.
"Annie and I first met due to a migrant worker’s wage arrears case," Simon Forrester summarized his acquaintance and affection with Sienna in a few sentences with a smile, "I liked her very much at that time. Two months later, we met again on the same flight to London, and our time together in a foreign country convinced me of my desire to be with her."
Sienna quickly added, "Daddy, do you remember six months ago when I was troubled by a million dollars? It was because I wanted to save a migrant worker’s child..." She recounted in detail how she misunderstood Simon at first, how he kindly helped Old Wang’s family, and also mentioned how she had a sudden stomach illness on the flight to London and how Simon helped and cared for her.
Quentin Thorne looked at Simon Forrester with admiration, nodding frequently.
The encounter between the two young people was random and didn’t seem like an arrangement by Simon, indicating no problem. From Old Wang’s case, it could also be seen that Simon was kind-hearted. The biggest fear is encountering a man with a cold heart and indifferent feelings, as such a person would not be very affectionate towards his wife.
That day, when Quentin Thorne accidentally met Simon Forrester at the Blackwood Family’s house, also visiting Old Master Blackwood for New Year’s greetings, he learned by chance that the two children were still together. Therefore, he became wary, subtly probing the old gentleman and found out about Simon Forrester’s close relationship with Tobias Blackwood, the future head of the Blackwood Family. That night, upon returning home, he thought about it overnight and finally decided to give Simon Forrester a chance.
This led to today’s meeting. Besides Simon not pursuing a political career, which Quentin Thorne regretted, all other conditions were excellent. Fortunately, Simon Forrester also had connections with the Blackwood Family. At least in the next fifty years, these resources from the Blackwood Family were reliable.
Quentin Thorne finally agreed to the relationship between the two children.
From then on, Simon Forrester and Sienna Thorne began a free and unrestricted dating style.
Sienna Thorne became more and more daring, no longer feeling the need to be home by nine at night, often coming home after ten. Quentin Thorne reminded her a few times during breakfast to come home earlier, but it had little effect. Eventually, he stopped saying much since Simon Forrester always safely brought her home, and he was relatively reassured.
For a long period after the New Year, Sienna Thorne’s work was busy and exciting.
The office recently assigned her a fresh graduate from R University’s law department as an assistant, a young girl who, although young, was very steady, and handled affairs flexibly, significantly reducing Sienna Thorne’s work pressure.
The director of the foreign affairs department, due to pressure from Thomas Reed, had to give Sienna Thorne the chance to handle cases independently. Coincidentally, these tricky cases honed her. She solved one case after another perfectly, not losing to mid-level lawyers who had practiced for several years before her.
For a while, she gained considerable recognition in Brimfield’s foreign legal circle.
Minor career successes felt invigorating, and she tasted the sweetness, becoming unstoppable, throwing herself completely into work. During that stage, Simon Forrester would personally pick her up from the law firm after working late every night. They’d have a late-night snack together, chat, and then go home.
In the blink of an eye, it was March. Simon Forrester was going on a business trip to Zahrat at the end of the month. Worried about Sienna Thorne taking the subway home late at night, he ordered her a BMW Mini Cooper.
By the time Sienna Thorne learned about it, Simon Forrester had already paid the deposit, and she only needed to provide her documents to complete the paperwork. Although she wasn’t very agreeable, she had no choice but to give in, as she couldn’t let the deposit go to waste.
On the weekend after picking up the car, Simon Forrester spent two whole days driving her around the streets and alleys of the city, driving both day and night, guiding her hand by hand. He even took her to drive a few laps on the airport highway, finally managing to slightly improve her driving skills.
On the day he left for Zahrat, Sienna Thorne drove him to the airport because he said if her driving wasn’t up to par, he wouldn’t go to Zahrat. Sienna believed him, signaling lane changes in advance, maintaining a safe distance from the car in front all the way, almost as if the driving test examiner was sitting in the passenger seat, ultimately managing to barely send the uneasy Simon Forrester onto the plane safely.
Due to the time difference, during Simon Forrester’s half-month in Zahrat, they only had the chance to video call on weekends. Fortunately, they both trusted each other a lot, and although they missed each other very much, it didn’t affect their work. Because in their hearts was a very certain place reserved for each other.
With a career in hand and love in their hearts, this feeling was very fulfilling and reassuring.
...
Three days before Sienna Thorne’s birthday, Simon Forrester finished his work in Zahrat and returned. He didn’t tell her in advance. After getting off the plane, without even adjusting to the time difference, he dropped his luggage, took a shower, changed into fresh clothes, and drove straight to Vantage to find her.
He only called her after arriving at the bottom of the Vantage building. She was so happy when she heard he was back that she quietly squealed in the office, jumping up in excitement.
"Didn’t you say you were coming back on Sunday? It’s only Friday today!"
"I came back early to give you a surprise," Simon Forrester said with a smile on his lips, looking at a particular window upstairs. "Are you working late tonight?"
The sound of a file being thrown on the desk came from the other end of the phone, "With you back, I definitely won’t work late!"
Simon Forrester laughed, "Then come down after work."
"Okay!"
It was April when the city had bowed out of the lingering chill of early spring, with a pleasant temperature. The faint fragrance of wintersweet was softly blowing on people’s faces with the wind, giving a very pleasant feeling.
From the armrest box, Simon Forrester took out a cigar and got out of the car, just about to light it. He paused for a few seconds and then smiled, tossing the cigar into the trash can.
He decided to quit smoking, starting today.
