Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy

Chapter 586 - 587 God of Slaughter [Second Update]

Chapter 586 - 587 God of Slaughter [Second Update]

Zhao Bin and his associates looked as if they had lost their parents, utterly devastated.

They had never expected that, when all was said and done, they would actually lose the bet.

How could things have possibly come to this?

However, making them admit defeat and hand their heads over to Wu Tian was something they would never do.

Zhao Bin and his cohorts were corrupt officials, and since when could the word of a corrupt official be trusted? When they were in office, they would tell the common people they would act as their patrons and protectors, but it was all a load of nonsense. All they cared about was lining their own pockets. What did the lives of the common people matter to them?

"A bet? Heh, did we make a bet? I don’t recall," Zhao Bin and the other corrupt officials jeered, brazenly denying everything.

"That’s right, did we make a bet? I certainly don’t remember one."

"Me neither. I was just eating my dinner; I didn’t agree to anything with you."

The corrupt officials were all incredibly smug. This sort of shameless denial was routine for them. They could do it without so much as batting an eye.

Although Wu Tian had killed the Regent King, and they feared he might kill them too, they suddenly felt secure.

Why?

Because this restaurant was filled with two-thirds of the officials from the imperial court.

How could Wu Tian possibly kill all of them? If they all died and so many officials were lost at once, who could possibly bear the guilt for such a massacre?

They could see that Wu Tian wasn’t a madman. He was rational. Therefore, he should understand the situation and not press the matter with them any further.

Unfortunately, they had sorely underestimated Wu Tian. They presumed they had him all figured out, but in the end, it was just that—a presumption.

"Oh? So you intend to go back on your word and renege on our agreement?" Wu Tian asked with an unbothered chuckle.

"That’s right," Zhao Bin admitted directly. The other corrupt officials nodded in agreement. This was their custom.

I am the villain, so what can you do about it?

The Regent King had been their patron while he lived, and this had always been their way. Even with the Regent King dead, they couldn’t change. Their villainous nature was on full display.

As for the officials who had earned their positions through merit, they couldn’t bring themselves to act with such a despicable demeanor. But asking them to honor the bet? That was also difficult.

One upright official sighed. "You are Wu Tian, correct? Mr. Wu Tian, as men of principle, we admit that we have lost. We won’t deny it."

"Oh?" A playful smile touched Wu Tian’s lips. "Does that mean you’ll honor the agreement and give me your heads?"

The upright officials’ expressions turned grim.

What a joke! Hand our heads over to Wu Tian? Impossible! Absolutely impossible!

Sure enough, one upright official said with a strained smile, "Unfortunately, we cannot simply give you our lives."

"That’s right," another added. "We are upright officials. We must advocate for the common people."

"Our heads may belong to you, but for the sake of the people, we must cling to life."

"Yes, exactly! When we have restored order and brilliance to the Qiankun of this realm, then we will give you our heads."

These upright officials were, of course, not as despicably vulgar as the corrupt ones. Perhaps their inner nature was the same, but on the surface, they at least had a fig leaf to hide behind where the others had none.

Wu Tian scrutinized the group of upright officials with amusement. "There are more of you than there are corrupt officials," he said suddenly. "So why do corrupt officials still exist? And why do the common people still suffer?"

The upright officials froze, not knowing what to say.

The little fellow, however, felt it was his time to shine. "I know, I know!" he exclaimed.

Wu Tian played along, asking, "Oh? And why is that?"

"Because without corrupt officials, how could they show off how amazing they are? Without corrupt officials, how could they stand out as being upright? How else would they be adored by the people?" the little one giggled.

The more he spoke, the more ashamed the upright officials looked, but they gritted their teeth and refused to admit it.

Why didn’t they eliminate the corrupt officials?

Because they didn’t want to kill anyone! Yes! That must be it. They repeated this to themselves.

"Such self-deception," Wu Tian said. "I’ll ask you one last time: do you acknowledge the bet, or not?"

"We do not!" Zhao Bin and the other corrupt officials declared first.

The words had barely left their mouths when, in a flash of lightning, Wu Tian appeared before them.

The corrupt officials were stunned. "You want to kill us? You need evidence!"

"That’s right! We are officials of Xiuyuan Country! To kill us, you need witnesses and physical evidence!"

Wu Tian smiled coldly. "Since when do I need evidence to kill someone?"

With that, he struck.

"No!"

Zhao Bin and the corrupt officials cried out in terror, but they only managed a single word before being silenced forever. One by one, Wu Tian lopped off their heads.

Blood spurted high into the air like fountains.

"How... how is this possible?"

The upright officials stood frozen in place, nearly driven mad with horror.

He actually did it! Wu Tian really dared to kill them!

With the deaths of these corrupt officials, three-fifths of the court was gone in an instant. When King Xiuyuan emerged from his seclusion, who could possibly explain this?

"Now then," Wu Tian said, ignoring the terror of the onlookers as he turned to the group of upright officials. "Are your heads mine, or not?"

The upright officials stumbled back, their faces drained of all color.

"You... you... you can’t kill us! We are upright officials!" the one who had spoken so much before stepped forward, his voice trembling.

Wu Tian sized him up, reading his face and performing a quick divination with his fingers. He suddenly laughed. "You call yourself an upright official?"

"You secretly conspire with local ruffians. They commit crimes, and you play the hero by personally arresting them afterward. The common folk praise you, giving you plaques that declare you an ’upright official’ and making you famous throughout Xiuyuan Country. And the ruffians? You secretly release them, only to conspire with even more criminals. You play the part of the clean official while they do the dirty work! Of course, sixty percent of the profits from their crimes go straight to you!"

As Wu Tian spoke, the so-called upright official grew terrified. His face turned deathly pale, his expression a mask of pure horror. "How... How could you know that? You’re not human! You’re not human!"

Wu Tian walked toward him, intent on taking his worthless life.

"I’m an upright official! You can’t kill me! The people believe in me! They were even going to build a public temple in my honor! If you kill me, you’ll be condemned by..."

Wu Tian had heard enough. He threw a single punch.

BOOM!

The upright official was dead!

The other upright officials collapsed to their knees in terror.

Wu Tian scanned the remaining men, their faces registering one by one in his eyes as he made his calculations.

These ones, however, have actually been fulfilling their duties.

Wu Tian was not a man who slaughtered the innocent indiscriminately.

Seeing this, Wu Tian said, "I’ll let you keep your heads on your shoulders for now. But from this day forward, you know what you must do, don’t you?"

"We know! We know!" the upright officials promised one after another. At this point, what could they do but beg for mercy?

They never imagined that this man would actually start killing with no regard for the consequences. They could only wonder how King Xiuyuan, upon emerging from his seclusion, would deal with this God of Slaughter.
