Chapter 30 You're going to break my magic, huh?!
Chapter 30 You're going to break my magic, huh?!
"My little Andrea 2, I know from this human description that the lady during the day is you, and you will definitely be eager to act at night."
Andrea 2 froze, then hissed, "It's you... I thought you'd always be hiding in the shadows..."
"Do you think I'm the kind of demon king who only appears at the end of the story?" a light, mocking female voice whispered in my ear. "But if I'm the villain, why wait until the very end? Wouldn't it be easier to just kill off the protagonist from the start?"
The hand loosened its grip on her neck and then turned her face towards the ground.
Andrea 2 met a pair of emerald green eyes—the eyes of another elf: "Vera!"
"I really didn't expect this," Vera tilted her head, "You're still alive. I thought you'd been dragged away by the goblins long ago and used as a breeding machine to purify the population."
"Purify the population?"
"You survived because of that blocky guy, right?" Vera leaned down, her breath hot against her ear. "That guy caused quite a stir in town. You really found a good master." She straightened up, took something from her bosom, and waved it in front of Andrea 2. "Is this what you want?"
It was a golden crown. The golden laurel wreath that should have been complete and magnificent was now reduced to a few broken gold leaves, the crown was twisted and deformed, and almost all the inlaid gems had fallen off.
"What did you do to it?!" Andrea 2's voice trembled.
"You went into that ruin in the Moonlit Forest after me, right?" Vera continued, seemingly ignoring the question, toying with her tattered crown, her tone relaxed. "That explains why it was empty when I went there the second time, with only the corpse of a cube-shaped man left for me."
"A corpse?"
Andrea 2 gritted her teeth: "You actually cooperated with those goblins. Didn't you say you were going to save the elves? And now you're doing this?"
"I'm still moving down that path," Vera smiled.
The old man clicked his tongue impatiently, "Stop talking too much."
"We're just catching up," Vera said casually, kissing Andrea 2 on the cheek. "What's wrong with saying a few more words? Right?"
"What a fine bow! Did your master give it to you? He's really good to his pet." Vera took the iron bow off Andrea 2, examined it, and then tossed it aside.
"I am not his pet, I am his guide."
"Pfft, hahahaha!" Vera leaned on Andrea 2's shoulder and laughed, and Andrea 2 could feel the other's soft chest rising and falling with her laughter from behind.
However, as she was laughing, Vera suddenly felt something hard against her chest. Looking down, she saw the iron bow that she had just thrown aside was now back on Andrea's back.
"What happened?"
Andrea 2 responded with a disdainful smile.
Just then, the basement door was flung open. A thin, pale-faced man scrambled in, and Vera recognized him—it was the information broker she had sent to sell fake information.
"Oh no! Someone's chasing me! Those adventurers! They must have found out about us!" he cried out in a panic, his gaze involuntarily drifting towards the elf, Vera.
Almost simultaneously, the daytime servant stumbled down the steps, shouting, "Master! Several adventurers are surrounding us outside, and they don't seem to have any good intentions!"
Vera: "Those adventurers were your companions in the human world, weren't they, my little Andrea 2?" Vera hugged her and gently bit her earlobe. "What did you say to them?"
"It's all your fault! Didn't you say you could handle it cleanly?" The old man's face darkened, and he glared at Vera, clicking his tongue louder. He turned and waved to the few mages who had been silent in the corner: "Go, chase those guys out."
The monks bowed and then went up into the merchant house. The basement returned to silence.
*
Under the moonlight, Ragon 1 and Nora 1 chased the fake information dealer through several pungent alleys, finally seeing him flee into an ochre-red trading house, where a few windows were lit up.
"Let's try verbal negotiations first," Ragon suggested.
Nora 1 agreed and immediately ordered the adventurers to surround all the exits of the trading post to prevent anyone from escaping.
With his weapon slung over his back, Lagon walked alone to the iron gate of the front yard and shouted, "We—"
Before Lagon 1 could even speak, a magical wind blade swept in from inside the trading house, leaving a bloody gash on his chest.
The lizardman instinctively retreated and hid behind an obstacle, allowing the mage in his team to exchange magical attacks with the guys inside the building.
In an instant, fireballs, ice spikes, and lightning bolts shot towards the merchant house from all directions, while the mages inside the building retaliated with an even denser barrage of magic.
The commotion startled pedestrians around the trading post, who quickly moved away.
The two sides continued their exchange of fire until nearly dawn. Neither side could gain the upper hand.
Ragon 1 decides to go find Mana 1 and Terra.
*
"The general situation is as I described above, Terra, use your invincible abilities to think of a solution." Ragon 1 was sitting cross-legged on the ground, eating the stewed rabbit sent over by the restaurant owner.
The monks who had finished eating were still exchanging magical spells with the monks inside the building.
The sounds of howling wind and explosions caused by magic rose and fell all around.
Each time a mage casts a spell, they must wait a while to allow the wisps of energy in the air to regroup. Based on the firepower inside the trading post, Mana1 deduced that there were at least a dozen mages inside.
Terra looked at the trading post, but for some reason, she noticed on the minimap that the guide's avatar was in this building.
Terra lit a campfire, broke open the iron gate in the front yard, and went straight in.
He was then attacked by the mage, and when he was hit, he made an "Oh" sound effect.
Terra lost 34 HP.
He now has an iron armor set, stewed rabbit, boots, and shackles he got in the village, giving him a total of 16 defense points. In Terraria, defense can mitigate both physical and magical damage.
This world is in Master Mode; every 1 point of defense negates 1 point of damage.
The damage is quite high; if your defense isn't strong enough, you'll die in two hits. Terra took a sip of a healing potion.
The mages in the trading post had heard of this blocky figure, but this was the first time they had ever seen him in person.
On the second floor of the building, an elderly man was anxiously peering out the window.
"Hey, I paid you guys to come here, not to use this kind of weak and ineffective attack!"
The old man saw that the cube-shaped figure had not bled or been injured after being hit by the magic; it had only been... only knocked back a short distance. His face turned ashen.
"Are you kidding me? Are you protecting that adventurer?"
The mage Owen, who was being pointed at by the old man, stroked his small mustache, opened his husky voice, and retorted in a deep voice, "Hey, hey, hey! Old man, although I haven't done many quests in the Adventurers' Guild, only Silver-level, my rating in the Magic Academy is Emerald. Do you know what that means?"
Having said that, the mage pointed his jeweled staff at the old man's male servant, and then—poof!
A magical projectile, identical to the one used to attack the blocky man, hurtled towards the innocent servant.
The servant turned and ran away when he saw the light emanating from the tip of the staff, but was quickly caught up by the magic missile.
A gaping, bloody hole appeared in the servant's chest, his internal organs charred black. He collapsed to the ground, blood everywhere.
"The problem isn't with me, it's with which blocky man, old man. I haven't heard of fighting that kind of monster." The mage Owen chuckled mockingly, whistled, and continued chanting his spell, firing a magic bullet that emitted a pure white light at the blocky man.
This was the first time Terra had encountered so many enemy monsters with mage AI in the new version.
The new version features a significantly wider variety of magic projectiles fired by mage enemies.
Fortunately, these mages don't teleport everywhere; they just stay in buildings facing the same direction. So they won't cause any problems for him.
Just then, a white magic projectile flew in front of her. Then, Terra swung her iron sword and cleaved the powerful magic projectile in two with a single strike, turning it into specks of light that disappeared. The magic attacks that followed were also neutralized by Terra in the same way.
In the old version, the mage's projectiles, although they looked like magic, could actually be treated as creatures with only 1 health point, making them easy to kill. The new version seems to have retained this feature.
All the mages in the trading post were shocked by this scene. Could a magical attack really be destroyed by an iron sword?
They've studied at the magic academy for so long, yet they're not even as good as a warrior?
The mage Owen watched as the blocky man, wielding an iron sword, approached and even broke through the door!
His throat bobbed.
"Luckily, that guy doesn't seem to know any magic attacks; he just stands there dumbly swinging his iron sword at close range. Sorry, old man, I have to run now, and not leisurely, but like a beast, I have to use all four limbs!"
"I paid a lot of money to hire you!" the old man stomped his foot angrily.
"You only bought my service, not my life!" The monk ran further and further down the corridor, saying, "Keep that money for your granddaughter."
Irving hadn't run far when spiderweb-like cracks appeared on the floor in front of him, eventually breaking open into a square hole.
The blocky figure jumped out of the hole and stood in front of him.
A pair of square eyes looked at Irving.
Irving stood frozen in place, forcing a smile: "Hey, Block Man, your target is that old man, right? We're both adventurers, there's no need for us to turn against each other."
……
……
"Do you have any other special questions?"
"What?"
"Do you have any other special dialogue?" the blocky figure in front of Owen asked again.
"As I just said, Block Man, your target is that old man, right? So, we..."
"So there's only one line of text. I guess they don't put much design effort into these roadside NPCs, even though the model looks like a big-breasted mature woman."
Disappointment bubbles rose above Terra's head.
An NPC, a mature woman? What is this guy talking about?
Then, he saw the blocky man wave his arm, and a thick branch with a green leaf suddenly appeared in his previously empty hand.
Owen thought it was some kind of special close-range weapon, but suddenly a large cluster of sparks appeared in front of the other person and was thrown at him.
It was too late for him to dodge. He then remembered that the blocky man had cleaved his magic projectiles with his iron sword, and he tried to disperse the sparks with his staff.
Then it didn't work.
Those sparks ignited Irving.
He shouted in vain, and finally fell into the man's pool of blood.
Terra opened the minimap, and the guide's portrait was right under her feet.
And we also saw the life crystal.
